Commence your journey from the city of Cusco with a scheduled pick-up from your hotel at approximately 4:00 AM. Then we will head to Ollantaytambo station to catch the train to the begining of our adventure Km 104, which will take roughly 1 hour and 15 minutes.
We will disembark at KM 104 to begin the hike. Once we arrive, you will need to present your original passport to gain access to the Inca Trail.
We'll visit beautiful Inca sites , see a variety of flora and fauna and get to take in the fantastic panoramas of the Andes mountains. Covering 14km of the trail our journey begins in the Sacred Valley and works it's way up along an original Inca Trail to the Inca site of Winay Wayna before continuing on to Machu Picchu via the Sun Gate (Inti Punku).
As we make our way to Machu Picchu we'll pass through the lush and verdant cloud forest that covers the mountain and get to see a variety of plants, flowers and birds along the way. We may also see some larger mammals such as Viscachas (rabbit-like Chinchillas) and Spectacled Bears (if we are very lucky).
You will reach Machu Picchu via the sun gate, also referred to as Intipunku, where you will first witness one of the world’s wonders, Machu Picchu. Once you arrive at Machu Picchu in the afternoon, you will have the chance to take your first photos with fewer crowds. Afterwards, we will proceed to walk down to our Campsite (Puente Ruinas), where our skilled chefs and porters will be ready to welcome you with a delightful dinner, and you will spend the night there.
Upon arrival at the site, the tents will be ready and set up for you to enjoy the night.
PLEASE NOTE: just a heads up that breakfast isn't included on the first day. However, you can buy it before boarding the train in Ollantaytambo! Plus, we'll provide a tasty box lunch for you to carry along on the first day. We recommend making a little space in your backpack for it. It's going to be a great adventure!
Today is such an exciting day in our adventure as we get to visit the stunning Machu Picchu! We'll gently wake you up early in your tent, and then you can enjoy a delicious breakfast prepared by our talented cooks. After that, we’ll hop on the first buses to Machu Picchu to witness the breathtaking sunrise together. This magical moment will truly make your trip even more memorable, as you'll get to experience Machu Picchu in all its glory, not just once but twice!
The guided excursion at Machu Picchu will take about 2 hours, during which you will discover the most remarkable temples of the Inca citadel. If you reserve extra trekking options such as Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain, our guide will provide you with all the necessary information for these additional trekking tours and how to return to the bus for Aguas Calientes. You can then have lunch at a restaurant before taking the trains from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo or Poroy, depending on availability.
